Last week had some heavy moments. It had me thinking about the choices we make and how we take ownership of them. Here we are in the beginning of March, trying to put winter behind us, hoping for spring. In the Northeast especially, it’s common to notice mood shifts this time of year — feeling more isolated, tired, anxious, stressed, or unmotivated. So let’s talk about coping as the winter blues lead to spring joy: Get outside & move your body. Even on cloudy days, sunlight helps regulate your internal clock and boost mood. Fresh air and a change of scenery matter. Exercise is a powerful mood booster (check with your doctor as needed). Be accountable to a healthy routine. Going to bed and waking up at scheduled times, make your bed, review what your day will consist of, eat healthy meals (indulging is fine!), and keeping regular daily activity will help reset your system. Try something new. Cook, craft, volunteer, explore — novelty brings energy. Practice mindfulness. Journaling, meditation, breathing, walking outside, carving out time for being in the present (being unplugged from devices) — find what works for you. Stay connected. Make plans, call a friend, connect virtually if needed. Support matters. Small changes really can make big differences. If you would like to talk more, I would love to connect. My monthly share... This is the first newsletter! I'm very excited to share it with you! I am a big fan of calm strips-- if you don't know about calm strips, we DEFINATELY need to talk! HUGE FAN! Calm strips are small adhesive textured strips (stickers) that feature various patterns, some include mindfulness reminders (the one above shows box breathing), others are just fun; all have textures that you can touch. As you touch something with a texture, evidence shows your brain refocuses, allowing for stress/anxiety reduction. (Yes, there are many alternatives we can discuss!) Stick calm strips on your computer, water bottle, notebook phone case etc. Well I just got new some new ones, some with a spring feeling/colors, new ways to remember to refocus the mind and calm the nervous system! If you want to order calm strips, I get them on Amazon! Clicker here for the Amazon page.
